OEC, our Optics Excellence Center, is where we study our transceivers with a fine-tooth comb.

Built on an ESD-protected floor, our OEC is a unique center of such a kind in Europe, where active and passive optical modules are meticulously scrutinized.

Thanks to expertise in optics, this center plays a key role in providing customers with top product quality, which Skylane Optics values the most.

Our custom Optics Excellence Center is equipped with some of the world’s most advanced analytical equipment.

Built on an ESD-protected floor, our OEC is a unique and unmatched laboratory in all Europe. One of our OEC primary purposes is testing the reliability of every single product before its release on the market. With their decades of experience, our specialized team in optical engineering has the ability to ensure our customers what Skylane values the most: a top-quality product
During the qualification process of our products undertaken inside our OEC, all the parameters indicated in our datasheets are measured, making sure our products are fully compliant with the following standards:

Thanks to our OEC, our Optical engineers are able to provide a perfectly accurate technical feedback not only to our technical committee, but also directly to our customers and partners.

Mechanics

If the mechanics of a transceiver is not correctly designed or manufactured, the customer will face issues when plugging it in and out of the switch. To avoid such problems, our OEC is involved in scrutinizing the mechanics of the pluggable optical modules together with the electrical gold finger interface. This includes:
• verification of the MSA compliancy by form factor
• passing Telcordia specs (GR-468-CORE)
• evaluating the robustness of the transceiver case
• locking mechanism check

Components

Our goal is not just to sell a functional module, but to offer a top-performance product. To reach this objective, we mainly focus on to the highest standard selection of electronic chips as well as the design of optical sub-assembly (OSA). We compare our brand with existing products from the market and we make sure to deliver the highest quality.

Functionality test

Verification of optical interface is the very first to check on all transceivers. During this stage, not only cleanliness of all optical interfaces is inspected using an automated probe, but we also verify there is no abnormality on the interface which are reported if witnessed.

Our OEC is equipped with two qualification lines:

• Low bitrate line; capable of testing transceivers from 100 Mbit to 10G
• High bitrates line, conducting physical layer test on 10G, 16G, 28G, 40G and 100G modules

When it comes to transceivers, ‘Temperature is the killer!’. Thanks to our climatic chambers, we are able to test transceivers over temperature cycles and measure:

• Transmitter characteristics such as output optical power, optical spectrum, eye diagram and dispersion penalty (measured using fiber spools)
• Receiver average and OMA sensitivity
• DDM Accuracy
• Electrical power consumption

In addition, we are able to conduct a complete media layer test. Using our protocol testers operating from Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) to OTU4 (112 Gbps), we ensure that our transceivers can make error-free transmission over temperature cycles.

Interoperability check

After the full functionality of our transceivers is verified, we ensure that our device-under-test (DUT) does interoperate with all the major brands available in the market. This way our customers can rely on a 100% compatibility of our products when using them on their side of the link.
The interoperability test is the practice of achieving a transmission link and maintaining it over temperature, when Skylane transceivers are used together with various counterparts from major manufacturers.

This test is an essential part of our qualification on:

• BiDi transceivers (1G and 10G), where optical filters at one side of the link and emitters at the other side need to be matched.
• Tunables (SFP+ and XFP),
• And last but not least, all form factors of 40G and 100G.
